5. Preserve food

Canning, dehydrating, fermenting are just some of the ways in which the Amish preserve food. As natural preppers, they know how to put away something for a rainy day. When produce is in season, they make good use of the abundance so it can be available when scarcity comes around. Is this a practical step we can take to make better use of food?

 6. Practice eating from our farms

13 Awesome life hacks from the Amish People

This is one of the best ways to get good organic food. In modern society today most people eat what health professionals call junk, not food- junk such as but not limited to (burgers, pizzas, sausages, toxic liquids we call juices and G.M.Os; genetically modified organisms). Most foods on the market today are filled with additives and artificial preservatives which are harmful to our bodies.

Studies have shown that average person only tends to turn to the real natural food when he/ she learns of a terminal illness or has special dietary needs that make it necessary to eat naturally. By practicing good eating habits, the Amish eliminate certain sicknesses and diseases from their lives. Clever life hack right!

7. Learn crafts that can make money

Money is a subject that cannot be exhausted…. Some people either have too little or too much but always want more. The Amish have somehow found a balance in dealing with this issue. They learn skills of survival such as farming, construction, furniture making and sewing. They sell a lot of farm produce which makes them savvy business people and they are equipped with some technical skills to utilize wind and solar energy.
They work in teams with joy and they love working so no fuss about money or where the next meal will be coming from. And with this kind of attitude- they always have enough food and fuel stored up to get by for a long period of time.
But that’s not all…. with the humble and dedicated attitude of the Amish people, their work and skills are always in demand; most people just love to work with them. Their good, kind and honest attitude has earned them the respect of most who come into contact with them. They are said to be the best in furniture making and construction.

 8. Have good dating practice

The Amish people do not practice having sex before they get married. People in regular society: normally do the opposite. This is one of the main reason why most males and females in the regular society suffer heartbreaks and depression.
People today might consider sex as a precious and very personal activity, however, they are sometimes not careful enough with whom they are hitting it up with.  Whilst dating they sometimes show each other a good time and play on the erotic side of their dates. They both fall for each other and find themselves rolling in the sheets. After the activity, they are lost as to what to do next. They find out that they were not meant to be together and they part… and this activity is often repeated over and over for years. People go through depression, stress, and hatred… all because of bad practices.
The Amish people do not suffer this fate. They keep their purity and have good dating practices until they decide that they want to settle and only after the big day do they give it up. And no they are never pressured into sex by males. The Amish males are the perfect gentlemen.

 9. Have gratitude
A thankful attitude is always the best way to live. The benefits of gratitude are tremendous in that it helps an individual feel much better about life and themselves. This way we can alleviate stress hormones which deplete and deteriorate the body…. In short, we have longer happier lives just by always being in an attitude of gratitude.

  1. In this world of ours now we could learn a lot from the Amish people. Firstly faithfulness to one another. There are so many dysfunctional families now because of infidelity. Our children our suffering the effects of this. Enjoyment in growing your own produce as well as the wholesomeness.
The only problem though is the subservience if the women. This therefore takes us back in time to where the women were second class to men. I myself do not like that side of the Amish culture.

    • I once heard “treat your husband like he’s king and you will be his queen”…believe it or not it works!!! When I finally gave my husband the honor he deserves (out of love and loyalty/ not pressure from him), I’ve never been cherished so much! 31 years later…these are the best years yet!!!

      • I couldn’t agree more. I used to balk about being told I was supposed to obey my husband. Until I realize that if my husband loves me as much as God loves the church like he’s supposed to then he would never ask me to do something that would hurt me or degrade me or be wrong in any way. I’ve never felt more loved than when I started loving my husband like the Bible tells me to, and it does not mean that I’m subservient.

The men do men’s work and are happy to do it, women do women’s work and are happy to do it. Their is no battle of sexes in the Amish world. Men are treated like the King and women are treated like the Queen. Children are taught by the parents and are disciplined by the parents. Once of age they can stay or go, most stay. I respect the Amish people.

  3. Really great read. And the comments are wonderful too. But at 42 and being a man it seems like the majority of women my age seem to feel lesser staying at home. And as one comment stated “doing women’s work”. I’d make a great stay at home dad. Lol. I’d have meals prepped and work in the yard all day. And very happily at that. ?

Ok Sir. Nothing wrong with that at all. Men can be very good at house work too. I love helping my wife around the house. We bond so much and she has a thousand thanks to give me when the night falls. Ain’t nothing better…. smile!
